Radio Aerials
Radio, much like TV has various signal types and again gives you a host of choice depending on your location, transmitted bands and signal quality in general.
There are 3 main types of radio reception aerial....
AM aerials (very little used anymore)
FM aerials (the most commonly used)
DAB aerials (the most modern) used for Digital Audio Broadcasting.
Although some radio stations still transmit on the AM band it is gradually becoming obsolete, hence it is not a good idea to spend your hard earned cash on an aerial of this type unless it
is intended for a specific purpose.
The more popular FM band aerials are now the norm and without doubt the most cost effective for general radio reception, but keep in mind that digital transmissions "DAB" are growing rapidly due to the superb CD quality offered and the general move towards all things digital.
The main FM aerials that we recommend depending on location. They are...
6 Element FM aerial to maximize on weak signals.
4 Element FM version for standard reception.
Omnidirectional FM-Halo type aerial for where reception is particularly good.

"DAB" Aerials are designed specifically for DAB reception that give perfect CD quality sound when you are tuned to a station offering digital broadcasting.
Although not specifically designed for FM receiving they also give a very good reception overall, so if you want to go the modern way without the need for other radio aerials a "DAB" is a good choice and again comes in various types and sizes to suit the reception you need.
The 5 Element DAB aerial is ideal for poor reception areas.
The 3 Element DAB aerial is ideal for average reception areas.
The Dipole style DAB aerial again is ideal for average reception areas.

With additional equipment any given aerial can be routed to various points and thus be used with more than one radio receiver.
