Multi-Point Systems
How often would you like to watch one satellite channel whilst recording another, or your kids are screaming to watch MTV while you are wanting to watch the news?
Some food for thought.........
As with all advancements, Sky now offer receivers with dual channel viewing etc as do some other manufacturers, BUT...
That alone will only provide a system working with one TV set or via extra remote gadgets to another (provided your batteries don't give up and you're within the remote range).
Here are a couple of other options.
 Multi-Point LNB
 Shared Multi-Point System
So what's the difference ?
In the way they work actually very little, but, as for cost, BIG DIFFERENCE.
The reason being, a shared system such as you would have in a block of flats etc involves the use of Signal Amplifiers, Power Sources, Splitter Boxes and a host of other things including a huge amount of Labour costs due to the time and complexity involved in the installation.
With a Multi-Point LNB, the cost and time involved is reduced dramatically, as is maintaining the system, and these days you can connect as many as 8 receivers to one single special LNB. In fact there are now quite a few special types of LNB available that allow connection of 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8 receivers at once, there are also some that can receive from 2 different satellites at once, tuned into one receiver.
So as you see, modern LNB's can resolve a sharing problem quickly and easily, and they will usually accommodate both analogue and digital signals together too.
The only extras needed are the cables to each given point or receiver wherever they are around your building, and in a few instances you may need a small inline amplifier if the cable run is particularly long to prevent any signal loss.
Below are a some pictures showing a few types of LNB and switching boxes that you can obtain easily from any good supplier, and with most of these special LNB's they will fit directly onto your existing dish without any problem.
