Standard Satellite Installations
Ok, before we get into the types and styles of satellite dish equipment available, and the varied complaints that many of you have regarding signal loss with Sky, I want to bring your attention to one very simple, but important detail.
For a 100% satisfactory signal from not just SKY, but the majority of near satellites, that doesn't deteriorate or freeze in bad weather you "WILL" need a 60cm to 70cm dish tuned correctly.
WHY ?
The original mini-dish as supplied by Sky installers ( 45cm - 55cm ) was and is inadequate. They only work well in average to good conditions.
While some of you may have been lucky and never had a problem, most of you, particularly when bad weather rears its head, or where heavy cloud cover is evident, consistently experience erratic picture and sound behavior, and maybe even lose your signal completely.
Although the compact size and design looks nice and is easily hidden, the reality is that Digital Picture Signals "DO" breakdown quickly and severely under adverse weather conditions, or where any kind of obstruction to the beam is evident. In many instances the picture can freeze or blank out completely.
The "ONLY" real cure for this problem is a larger dish and or a much better quality LNB, both of which we would be happy to install for you.
That said, a replacement dish need not be as expensive as you would imagine, and with the many types and colours of reflective paint now hugely available a larger dish need not be an eyesore.
Why not get artistic and make your dish a part of the surrounding scenery.
There are many different LNB types on the market, and they all have different qualities. Some are specifically designed to accommodate additional receivers, some are typically used for analogue reception, some are duel purpose. But the biggest factor is the noise level that they work under.
LNB = Low Noise Block. Basically their function is to convert the frequencies beamed from the satellites into a lower block that is easier for a receiver to understand and reproduce the transmission to your TV set.
However, they come in various frequency bands, some high, some low, but all to do the same job. That being the case, some work better than others because they produce less noise to supply the frequency a receiver needs.
A noise ratio of 1.0 is usually ok, but if you plan to view more distant satellites, and particularly with motorised equipment, opt for a lower noise ratio such as 0.7 - 0.8, because although they are more expensive, ultimately they will provide you with a much better overall performance.
Any good satellite retailer should be able to advise you further on this, and it really is one of the details you'll want to understand before you waste any money.
Other options include the "Squarial" flat dish with a built in LNB, these are much smaller in size yet still provide the equivalent surface area of a 70cm dish through technology advances, these too can be painted and disguised easily at ground level or elsewhere.
Here at C.V.S. we first consider location and mounting types to keep your property looking how it should. There are many ways and places a dish can be installed without them being so highly visible and unsightly. All that's needed is a location with a clear point of view to the given satellite signal.
Occasionally a more discrete location can cost a little more due to different or special mountings and extra cable lengths etc, but generally it gives you the customer much more peace of mind and satisfaction.
All of these things we will be happy to advise you about.
There are 3 main satellite dish types and many varied types of mounts available for both fixed dish systems and motorised.
 Prime Focus.
 Offset Focus.
 Sqarial. (flat dish)
Each have their own benefits with regard to dish size and receiving quality, the most common and lowest priced being the offset type.
Below are a few pictures showing some of these along with varied mounts.
Standard Offset with Ground Mount Flat Dish (Squarial)

We install many dish types including, Motorised Systems - Fixed Systems - Mobile systems
